Law Of Attraction | The Golden Rules For Running Success

I wanted to bring up the law of attraction as it relates to distance running in this post. The law of attraction states like breeds like. If you believe in your heart that you can attain any athletic or fitness goal, your brain will work in your favor to do so.

That being said, what usually happens when you worry, overly concern yourself with too many questions or concerns leading into a race? You feel stressed right? Your not comfortable and we all know that when we are relaxed, we perform at our best.

I ran my best marathon in a flow state. It is the best way I can describe it. I was running an average of 5.11 per mile through the 20 mile mark of my marathon, yet it felt as if I were just doing a long run.

I firmly believe in the law of attraction. I constantly was visualizing seeing myself perform at levels that were far beyond what my marathon times had been prior to breaking the 2.20.00 barrier.

Do you remember that first spark of hope you felt when you watched The Secret? I clearly remember the desire that filled my heart, knowing that – Yes, I can make my dreams come true –FINALLY!

But how many of you soon saw that hope dwindle into frustration? How many of you (and don’t be shy) started muttering things like:

“Some people seem to race well all of the time, but I just can’t get it right.”

“I’m frustrated that sometimes I race well and other times I run far below my abilities?”

“Why am I having so much issues?”

“I think I may have a black cloud over me.”

- “I’m trying very, VERY hard but still nothing is happening!”

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. About 97% of people also couldn’t make the Law of Attraction work for them the first time round.

Think about it, just like anything else, you have to practice many times before you see success. A child doesn’t learn to walk without falling over a couple of times, right?

Do you think running is any different? If you have been around the sport long enough you know what I am talking about.

But in practice, everything is easier said then done. When you’re tense and worries, it’s hard to stay upbeat. And it’s especially harder to stay positive when the evidence all around you is screams negativity like the shakable economy we deal with or the continual violence we see on television.

And do you know what happens when you fail to stay positive? That’s right – you start attracting negative things in to your life.

So how can you make the Law of Attraction work for you – without getting frustrated? How do those who successfully implement the Law of Attraction do it with such confidence and finesse?

Well, here’s three quick tips so you will never feel frustrated or tired of begging from the universe, because you know how to start manifesting like a pro.

1. Allow Yourself To Receive

Just like a lost child who approaches a his mother and asks, “Mommy, can we go play? Can we? Can we? Can we? Can we? Can we?” Well, if the child goes on and on asking, the mother can’t even give an answer, right?

Well, it’s the same thing with your mind. If the only thing your mind is doing is transmit, transmit, transmit, the universe — which is trying to respond — can’t give you a single thing because you’re not allowing yourself to receive!

I have made this same mistake with my own running.

It was odd because here I was training full-time in one the most prestigious military units in the Army, had all the luxuries any athlete could want yet I wasn’t performing to standard.

I was stressed and burned out. I was trying too hard and over thinking it. My wife and I laugh about it now because I am currently in one of the busiest military units in the US Army, hardly have any time to myself yet ran my second fastest marathon (2.26.42) under conditions certainly not made for optimal training.

If you are balanced, stress free and not focused on measuring up to others but relaxed you will perform well. This is the heart of the law of attraction.

So,have faith in your running and stop taxing yourself by being overly concerned by things outside of your control, and then wondering why you are missing your goal times (Hint: it’s not because you don’t have the capacity to make that happen).

Just think of your goals and leave it all out there on the roads and tracks, trust that your cup will be filled with gold coins (or whatever it is you asked for) when the time is right. You have to think like this.

What is the alternative? Negativity, inability to maintain pace for your race distance. The list could go on and on. You have to be positive.

2. Be Patient With Yourself

Jumping Over a Challenge to Achieve SuccessReceiving takes time yet we live in a society that does not believe in delayed gratification. We want results and fast. Our distance running media and major websites seem to forget about the process and puts all the emphasis on the event (the race time, end result, times etc).

How many runners give up just a few steps from their goal finish line because they have decided that if they have made the jump in times by now, it’s never going to happen.

Worse still are those who throw in more and more mileage because they think that running higher miles and running faster more days of the week, the results will come faster.

This is like expecting 9 mothers to conceive and deliver a baby in 1 month. You also can’t bake cookies in half the time by doubling the temperature. You’ll incinerate those cookies to ashes!

In simple terms: Everything in this world has a natural development time, and this fact will not change no matter what resources you throw at it.

So relax and be patient. Remember that you too, as part of the universe, are also governed by the laws of the universe, and you cannot change the natural development time.

If you remember this, you will less likely work yourself up into frustration, or worse, push yourself into a downward spiral of negativity with your race performances following in hot pursuit.

3. Support and Educate Yourself

Like the child who is learning how to walk, you need support.  Stop into the Rundreamachieve Forums, get to know other runners. Visit the Fan Page or talk with a close friend or family member. A strong support system will always put you in line with a great performance because it puts things into perspective.

If you run a great time, you’re family will love you and guess what, if you run horrible, they still love you. There is always another day (we hope) to crush your next race.

Many people give up because they think that “The Secret” is the “be all and end all” solution. Well, it’s NOT. “The Secret” is just a small portion. It was never intended, and has never been, the whole answer.

Coming to the conclusion that the Law of Attraction doesn’t work when all you ever did to educate yourself was watch “The Secret” 19 times (without looking at changing the habits of other areas of your life) is like coming to the conclusion that exercising is not an effective way to lose weight because all you did is run on the treadmill for 2 hours a day (but you’re still stuffing yourself with fried foods and cheesecakes).

So seek and be hungry for new knowledge. Also, make an effort to be amongst people or communities where you can support each other, learn from each other and also share new knowledge that you have found.

While the Law of Attraction is not an overnight delivery service, it will indeed deliver, if you do your part too! I firmly believe in the law of attraction and this is one product I cannot recommend enough to assist you in your running success. It is one I am continuing to use in my own quest of breaking the 2.15.00 marathon barrier.

3.27 Marathoner

I am no phenom, just an ordinary guy who was looking to improve my running. In the marathon, I went from 4:40 to 3:36 and then to 3:27, a Boston Marathon qualifying time for my age group in less than two years of running. Much of this success can be attributed to having a lot of heart and dedication.

The other part, I can honestly say, happened when I was fortunate to find Nate Pennington as a coach on RunDreamAchieve.

Nate crafted a thoughtful, personalized training plan which allowed me to achieve my dream of a BQ! Moreover, I was able to obtain valuable information on race strategy and mental aspects of racing from a world-class athlete.

Nate is very accessible through email and always answered any questions I had in a timely manner. I would HIGHLY recommend teaming up with Nate Pennington as your running coach. It will be a worthwhile investment in your running future.”

4.30 Marathoner

I have been doing some reading on the net, is when I came across RDA. I have been floored!!!! In a way, it is as if someone can read my mind and lay it out before me.

All of it! The ambition, the fire, the fears, the anxieties, the doubts, the questions … everything!!I have a stretch target this year of going sub 2 and I believe I have put in some quality training for that.

Yesterday morning, I ran 2:00:01 on largely the race route (with 1 more uphill than the actual race route so I know the intensity of my run has been above what is needed on the race day to achieve my goal)This is the first plan that actually prescribes what I always believed deep down inside.

That the faster you run and the more time that you extend that pace, the more likely you are to achieve race day goals! Every other training plan, without exception, does not recommend running at or below race day pace. And I couldn’t understand for the life of me how I would morph into a faster person on race day miraculously…. I now feel vindicated!I love your writings on motivation, goal setting, the power of positive thinking and quality preparation.

2.49 Marathoner

I won’t take up much of your time but I wanted to say thank you very much for inspiring me to run and achieve my dreams.
I ran Rotterdam April 14th which was a disaster for me. I stopped mile 23 with a really bad pain in my foot, calf. I was injured going in and it but it wasn’t my day. After 4 months of solid training I was very disappointed. I finished though and received a wonderful medal. I walked the last 3 miles and it took me 3.54 min to cross the line. A great time but not what I was looking for. It’s true I was a bit down but I remember reading your blog posts and advice and you always talk about bad races but more importantly getting back up and learning from it. I took that advice on board very quickly as I had a marathon two weeks later in Dusseldorf April 28th.
Nathan it worked for me and I achieve my target of running a sub2.50 – I just about done it and ran 2:49:56. I knocked almost 3 minutes off my PB and I done this by following your advice of race pace miles and when to do them and when not to do them. It was also that you inspire us to dream big, to have utter belief and put the work in.

I started to read your blog posts last summer and since that time I have improved gradually with my marathons times going from a 3.10, 2:53 to 2:49 in the space of 8 months. Thank you again Nathan for everything. I am telling you this because I have often been running and finding it hard and I would think what Nathan would say, what he would advise. In a sense you’re our coach who motivates us and helps us realise our potential.
